Around 850,000 Ozark Trail 64-ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles are being recalled by Walmart due to reports of facial injuries after being struck by the lid after it was ejected upon opening, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.1 Two consumers have been left with permanent vision damage after being hit in the eye.
The bottles included in the recall have the model number 83-662 on the packaging, but not on the bottle itself. To help you identify if your product is recalled, you can check that the bottles measure 4.41 x 4.41 x 11.5 inches and that the Ozark Trail logo is embedded in the metal on the side of the bottle.
The lid of the bottle poses the biggest risk of ejecting when users open the previously closed lids after food, carbonated drinks or perishable drinks like juice and milk have been stored in the bottle for an extended period of time.
These water bottles have been sold exclusively at Walmart stores since 2017, both online and in-store for about $15 per unit. Consumers affected by this recall can bring their items into a Walmart store or contact Walmart for a full refund, and are recommended to stop their usage of the product immediately.
